Drink Kefir, Help Haiti

It’s been two weeks since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated the already-impoverishedHaiti. No matter who you are, you’ve surely been touched in some way by this catastrophe – be it a friend or family member who lives there, a personal experience with natural disaster or just an innate sense of compassion for those suffering.

In recognition of the triumphant spirit of the people of Haiti, and in an effort to help them recover, Lifeway Foods, Inc. will donate 5% of the retail price of all Lifeway and Helios Kefir sold in the United States from February 1, 2010 to February 28, 2010 to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in support of relief efforts in Haiti. Throughout February, specially marked Kefir bottles will feature a tag bearing the UNICEF logo to let you know that the product you’re purchasing supports the relief effort to provide life-saving supplies of food, water, medical supplies and shelter for survivors. All ProBugs and Kefir products are included, in every variety: Kefir Lowfat, Nonfat, Organic Low Fat and Whole Milk, Helios, Greek Style and Original.

“As a mother, my heart breaks for all of the children who are suffering from injuries, the loss of their parents or loved ones, their home—it’s devastating,” said Lifeway CEO Julie Smolyansky. “We just had to do something to help. UNICEF is known worldwide for its humanitarian efforts to support children in crisis and this is an ideal way for us to contribute to the relief efforts.
